Created in 2017 by Dr. Derek Anderson, BMIPH was founded on the premise of creating a safe space for public health-affiliated Black men to share resources, network, and support each other in their public health careers; while simultaneously prioritizing the health and lives of Black men and their families. The vision of BMiPH was to develop generations of public health-affiliated Black men whose work prioritizes safeguarding the health of Black men and their families. To realize this vision, Derek and Jasmine (founder of BLIPH) understanding the importance of moving with a spirit of unity partnered from the very beginning. While there are some differences in the spaces BLiPH and BMiPH navigate, there is much to be done at the intersections of our identities in careers, as members of the Black community, and shared purpose of safeguarding the health of Black populations.
