Jill Denson recently completed her Ph.D. in Public Health with a concentration in Community and Behavioral Health Promotion. Her dissertation, The Impact of Structural Determinants on Pregnancy Intention and Reproductive Decision-Making Among African American Women, used a mixed-method that was participatory. Dr. Denson also has a master’s degree in social work. Dr. Denson has worked in a variety of settings with the goal of promoting health equity and eliminating health disparities. Dr. Denson is currently a public health supervisor with Madison & Dane County Public Health, where is manages the Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinic, Syringe Services Program, and the Wisconsin Well Woman Program. Dr. Denson has developed maternal and child health programming to address infant and maternal morbidity and mortality which includes, home visitation, case management, Centering Pregnancy, Centering Parenting and adolescent sexual health. Dr. Denson was also instrumental in partnering with pediatricians in a large FQHC to develop a process for formalized developmental screens through home visitation and pediatric visits. Dr. Denson is committed to continued work and advocacy that will lead to health equity and address how social and structural determinants, including racism, impact health and well-being.
